Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 28, 2026
This policy explains what PMWorks (“we”, operated by Petr Muselík) does with your data when you use our software, including Desco. The short version: Desco is built to keep your data on your Mac.
What Desco stores — and where
Desco is a menu-bar utility for managing macOS Spaces. The data it creates — your desktop names, colors, per-desktop notes, and preferences — is stored locally on your Mac: names, colors, and preferences in the app’s standard settings, and any notes as Markdown files in a “Desco Notes” folder in your Documents. We never receive it, and it is never uploaded to us or anyone else.
If you buy a license, Desco also keeps a small local activation record — your order email and a redacted reference to your license key — in the app’s support folder, so you have your own proof of purchase for any payment dispute. This stays on your Mac.
What leaves your Mac
Desco has no servers of its own and never uploads the data you create. A free, unlicensed copy makes no license-related network calls at all. In total, only these requests ever leave your Mac:
- Software updates (Sparkle). By default Desco checks for new versions automatically: it periodically fetches a version feed to see whether a newer release exists. This applies to the free app too. It is a standard web request that sends no personal or desktop data, and you can turn it off in Settings.
- License activation (only if you buy). When you activate a purchased license, Desco makes one request to our payments provider, Lemon Squeezy, to validate the license and register this device. It sends your license key and a non-personal device identifier — your Mac’s hardware model (for example “MacBookPro18,1”) plus a one-way salted hash of its hardware ID. It does not send your name, your computer’s name, your email, or any desktop data, and the raw hardware ID never leaves your Mac.
- License re-validation (paid licenses only). So that refunds, chargebacks, and seat deactivations can take effect, a license that was activated online re-confirms itself with Lemon Squeezy from time to time — roughly every two weeks, when you launch the app. This sends only the same license key and device identifier as activation; nothing new and nothing personal. Free, time-unlocked, and offline-code users are never contacted this way.
No tracking, no third-party analytics, no accounts
Desco contains no advertising SDKs, no third-party analytics, no crash-reporting services, and no user accounts. It offers an optional, off-by-default usage summary that is kept as a file on your Mac and is never transmitted. We do not build a profile of you and we do not sell data.
Purchases
Payments are handled by our Merchant of Record, Lemon Squeezy (Lemon Squeezy, LLC, a Stripe company). When you buy a license, Lemon Squeezy collects and processes the information needed to take payment and remit tax (for example your email, billing details, and country). We receive order and license records from Lemon Squeezy but do not receive your full payment details. Lemon Squeezy’s handling of your data is governed by their own privacy policy: lemonsqueezy.com/privacy.
The website and community
This website is served as static files via GitHub Pages; GitHub may log standard request metadata (such as IP address) as described in GitHub’s privacy statement. Our community board uses GitHub Discussions — participating there is governed by GitHub’s terms and privacy policy, and anything you post is public.
Your rights
Because we hold almost no personal data about you, most requests concern data held by Lemon Squeezy or GitHub, which you can exercise with them directly. For anything we do hold (such as order records), you may contact us at muselik+desco@gmail.com to access or delete it, subject to applicable law.
Children
Our software is not directed to children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
We may update this policy; material changes will be reflected by the “last updated” date above.
